How to drap banarasi saree (guide)

Step-by-Step Guide to Drape a Banarasi Saree

1. Preparation

  • Wear a well-fitted petticoat:  Choose an analha that corresponds to your Saree’s color (ideally a color near the shadow of the Saree). This will give Saree a soft base and help with folds
  • Choose a matching blouse:Choose a blouse with a design that complements the style of Saree Banarasi. Traditional blouses (such as a boat neck, deep back or high neck) work best for an elegant look.

2. Start the Drape

  • Position the Saree: Hold the Saree so that the end will be on your left. Saree’s longest part should be at the front, and the shorter end should be placed at the waist.
  • Tuck the Saree: Start by placing the smooth end of the saree on the anagua at your waist, ensuring the lower edge of the saree touches the floor. The length must fall uniformly around; Therefore, adjust the height pulling -a up or down slightly.

3. Wrap the Saree Around the Waist

  • Full drape: drape the Saree around the waist, making sure it is comfortable and properly sit on the hips. Place the saree along the anagua as it surrounds it, ensuring that the fabric is smooth and free of creases.
  • Overlapping Pleats: When completing the wrap, make sure the saree edge overlap perfectly on the back.

4. Create Pleats

  • Make Pleats: In front, add the saree fabric and make 5 to 7 folds of equal width (approximately 4 to 5 inches each). These folds should be well aligned and even in length. Keep them together at the top and make sure they get gracefully toward your feet.
  • Tuck the Pleats: Place the folds in your anagua slightly to the left of the navel, protecting them in place. Make sure the folds open evenly and fall symmetrically.
  • Adjust the Pleats:Set the folds: Make sure the folds are smooth and tidy, without wrinkles.

5. Drape the Pallu

  • Toss the Pallu Over Your Left Shoulder: : Now take the pallu (the decorated end of the Saree) and light on the left shoulder. Make sure it flows gracefully in the back with the embroidered section or zari facing out.
  • Pallu Length:Pallu should finally finish around the waist or slightly smaller, depending on its height and preference. You can drag it loosely or press it to a more structured look.

6. Secure the Pallu

  • Pin the Pallu: To ensure that Pallu remains in place, use some safety pins to hold the Pallu on the shoulder. You can also use a decorative pin or brooch to the shoulder to add elegance.
  • Adjust the Draping: After fixing the pallu, adjust -o to ensure it is elegantly on the shoulder and falls evenly on the back. You can leave it in waterfall or create a soft fold, depending on your preference.

7. Final Adjustments

  • Adjust the Length: Make sure the Saree length is around and the folds are perfectly ahead. The lower edge of the Saree should graze the floor while still high enough to show your shoes.
  • Final Touch:Pass your hands along Saree to soften all wrinkles or folds. Final Touch: If you wish, add a decorative brooch or a belt to accentuate the waist, or you can keep your traditional look with simple jewelry.
